Possible houses receive joy in La Zurza

SANTO DOMINGO.-Just knowing that an unidentified commission went through its populous sector to make measurements for “the apartments” that they have been waiting for 14 years, joy took over the humble families of La Zurza.

Mayobanex Escoto, director of the National Housing Institute, advanced his willingness to build the housing units as long as the Government provides them with the resources for the project. However, he specified that the portfolio is not responsible for the units, although he said that it would support the families if the entities in charge manage the resources.

“Whenever the President allocates the funds, we do it; We do not have it in this year's budget, ”said Escoto.

Those evicted to make way for work on Line I of the Santo Domingo Metro have been in subhuman conditions since 2005 and do not lose hope that the Government will help them get out of the insanity.

Víctor Manuel Portorreal, spokesman for the La Zurza Development Management Committee, said that of the 176 families surveyed, only 81 received an apartment, 50 are in the same number of houses that are now ramshackle on the river bank, and the rest wander with a promise letter .

He said yesterday that they will meet with Father José Beltré, from the San Juan Bautista parish, to coordinate actions.
