They brought us to the funeral home, that's so that if we die we can watch ourselves right here and bury us

Santo Domingo.– Damaged in the La Zurza neighborhood due to Hurricane Irma passing through the country, they complained about the little help received from the authorities.

The funeral home of the aforementioned sector is used as a refuge for about 18 families residing in the vicinity of the Isabela River.

"They brought us here to the funeral home, that is so that if we die, watch ourselves right here and bury ourselves once, that will be what he (President Danilo Medina) wants," said Carmelita Diloné, visibly upset.

Diloné explained that she had to leave her house because "yesterday the government threw the guard down on us to evict our houses and bring us here."

The “extremely dangerous” Irma is located approximately 95 kilometers northeast of Puerto Plata, and is traveling at 26 kilometers with winds of 280 kilometers per hour, according to the latest report from the National Meteorology Office (Onamet).
