OPRET Will Build Houses In La Zurza

SANTO DOMINGO. Residents in the La Zurza sector received with hope but with some disbelief, the announcement of the Office for the Reordering of Transportation (OPRET) that at the end of this month the construction of 176 apartments for the same number of families will begin.

Since they have received similar promises before, they are like Saint Thomas: "Seeing is believing."

But Leonel Carrasco, deputy director of the agency, guaranteed that the director of OPRET, Diandino Peña, will give the first pie in several lands located in the area, in which three housing complexes will be built.

Project

The official explained to DL that in coordination with the neighborhood councils and the Zurza Management Committee, they identified the land where about 200 apartments will be built.

In the old treatment plant, 80 apartments will be built, another 40 in an area converted into a parking lot, which belongs to the Aída Cartagena Portalatín school, and the rest on a site of the Club Nuestro Esfuerzo.

Carrasco reported that OPRET still does not have the total budget for the works because they are at the stage of preparing the plans, so that later they will offer more details of the cost and the apartments.

"At the end of this month, the engineer Diandino Peña will give the first piezo," he said.

Fear

Milagros Montero, from the Management Committee of La Zurza, said that the 176 families fear that their homes will not be finished if they first complete the metro.

Sarita Corporán hopes that OPRET will not do the same thing as in November 2006, when she announced that the apartments were going to be ready, on January 1, 2007 and they were never started.

Benefited

With the construction of the 176 apartments, 50 affected families living in barracks, built two years ago, and 126, who will be evicted from the La Zurza cliff, who live in spaces called "The Valley of Death", La Zurzita, will be favored. , La Cañada and La Zurza Grande.
